The Young Maker and National Library Launch Scratch Junior Competition in Singapore

Join The Young Maker and the National Library in a Scratch Junior competition that encourages kids in Singapore to code for a cause, choosing from themes like animal welfare, kindness, and recycling.

Introduction
Step into the imaginative world where coding meets compassion and creativity! The Young Maker, a leading coding school, has teamed up with the National Library to host a Scratch Junior competition that’s set to inspire the youngest of programmers. This event isn’t just about coding; it’s about coding for a cause. With three compelling themes to choose from, this competition invites kids to tackle real-world issues through their projects, making it a perfect blend of learning, technology, and ethical education.

This year, we received an overwhelming number of applications online, and after careful consideration, we have selected the top 10 finalists who will present their projects.

Competition Themes and Requirements
Participants in this vibrant competition have the freedom to choose from three thoughtfully designed topics, each encouraging a blend of creativity, empathy, and environmental awareness: (1) Animal welfare, (2) Being kind in the society and (3) Taking care of our planet.

Judging Criteria

Projects will be judged on creativity, effective use of ScratchJr features, coding skills, adherence to the chosen theme (animal welfare, kindness, or recycling), functionality, and presentation. Each criterion is aimed at assessing not just the technical aspects but also how well the participants communicate their vision and integrate the theme into their projects, ensuring a holistic evaluation that encourages skill development and creativity.
